SHELBY STATEMENT ON REPEAL OF STEEL TARIFFS

U. S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today commented on President Bush’s decision to lift tariffs on imported steel:

“I am disappointed that the Administration has decided to repeal the temporary tariffs on imported steel. Alabama’s steel industry has benefited tremendously since these tariffs have been in place, allowing our manufacturers to restructure and consolidate their operations. Not only will this early elimination of tariffs result in possible job loss, it may have an adverse affect on the future of Alabama’s steel industry. I urge the President to reconsider his decision.”
