U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced $11.29 million in funding for Mobile's Courthouse Annex. The funding was included in the Senate Treasury and General Government Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2002. Included in the bill is approval of funding, secured by Sen. Shelby, for several other programs and projects to benefit Alabama.
Sen. Shelby said, "These funds will allow Mobile to proceed with plans for the annex, including expenses for the construction and ongoing design of the annex."
Also included in the bill were funds for several other Alabama and national projects. The bill includes $4 million for repairs and alterations to the Montgomery Federal Building and Courthouse; $1 million for the Auburn University Canine Detection Training Center; and $3.009 million to fully fund the Exploited Child Unit of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The funds were included in the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Conference Report that passed the Senate. The bill will now be sent to the President to be signed into law.
