Shelby Announces $268,305 for University of Alabama, School of Law

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $268,305 to the University of Alabama School of Law.  This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which helps local communities improve local justice systems.

“Disputes in family court are always difficult and painful for everyone involved,” said Shelby.  “The University of Alabama School of Law will use this funding to establish a Mediation Law Clinic that will provide free mediation services for parties involved in family court cases in Tuscaloosa County.  With this service, the law school hopes to demonstrate that family court cases can be resolved faster and more to the mutual satisfaction of everyone involved through mediation instead of adjudication.”
