U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $23,755 to the City of Bessemer. This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for law enforcement agencies to create and use programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“It is essential that our law enforcement officers have the tools and resources needed to do their jobs,” said Shelby. “The Bessemer Police Department will use this grant funding to enhance its communication system so that officers will be able to communicate more effectively while in the field.”
