SEN. SHELBY ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR MONTGOMERY AND SURROUNDING AREA

Committee Passes Transportation Appropriations Bill

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, announced approval of funding for several Montgomery projects.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased that the bill provides significant funding for several Montgomery projects. These funds reflect our commitment to safe and efficient transportation and infrastructure."

Interstate 85 Corridor
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill provides crucial funding for the Interstate 85 corridor. $1 million in funding will be provided this fiscal year for this project to connect Montgomery and Prattville with Meridian, Mississippi. The creation of Interstate 85 is an important priority for me. Interstate 85 will bring significant economic development and opportunities to a region of the state that has not yet reached its potential."

Union Station/Moulton Street Intermodal Facility
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased to announce that we have secured $5 million for the Union Station/Moulton Street Intermodal facility. This facility is designed not only to provide a modern operations center for Montgomery's transit service but also as a hub of the riverfront development project."

Selma Riverfront
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased to announce $500,000 for the development of the riverfront area in Selma. These funds will allow the City of Selma to begin the process of planning and designing the riverfront development."

Asphalt Technology Pavement Research
The bill includes $1.25 million for the National Center for Asphalt Technology Pavement Research at Auburn University. The funding will be used to initiate a new research program for improving and evaluation pavement performance by developing tests in the laboratory that predict problems earlier and efficiently repaired and other research that utilizes the Center's 1.7 mile oval asphalt test track.

Troy State University Bus Shuttle Program
Sen. Shelby said, "Our legislation provides $1.5 million for the bus shuttle program at Troy State University."

Auburn-Opelika Airport
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased our bill includes $1.5 million for an instrument landing system (ILS) at Auburn-Opelika Airport. This system will greatly enhance safety at the airport."
