SHELBY ANNOUNCES NOMINEE TO U.S. SERVICE ACADEMY FROM RANDOLPH COUNTY

Randolph County Native Receives Nomination to U.S. Naval Academy

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that Jessica O’Rear of Wedowee, AL has been nominated to the United States Naval Academy. Senator Shelby nominates students every year to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Jessica, daughter of James and Debra O'Rear, is a student at Handley High School.

Senator Shelby said, “Furthering one’s education at our nation’s service academies is remarkable. Jessica has shown exemplary performance in the classroom and in his extracurricular activities. The selection process for the academies is extremely competitive, and I was pleased to have been able to nominate Jessica.”

Service academy nominees must be residents of Alabama and must complete the required ACT and SAT exams. Applicants are also required to provide letters of recommendation, their school transcript, completed medical examination, and the required application form.

Although Senator Shelby nominated Jessica, the United States Naval Academy will make the final selection.
