OVERNIGHT MAIL DELIVERY TO HART SENATE OFFICE BUILDING SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY

Sen. Shelby no longer able to receive next-day packages from FedEx, UPS and other overnight shippers

WASHINGTON, D. C.--- Due to the recent anthrax contamination in the Hart Senate office building and elsewhere on the Capitol complex, overnight delivery of packages to congressional offices has been suspended indefinitely. After a series of negotiations, House and Senate officials decided to place the moratorium to safeguard members of Congress, staff and capitol workers from exposure to anthrax or another biological agent. The measures were also put in place to protect House, Senate and U. S. Capitol buildings from the type of contamination which shut down the Hart Senate office building late last year. Overnight packages will now be delivered to an off-site facility for testing, which means they will not reach their intended destination for up to three weeks.
