U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced the opening of the application process to Alabama's high school students for nomination to the U. S. Service Academies. Students wishing to attend the U. S. Naval Academy, the U. S. Air Force Academy, the U. S. Military Academy, the U. S Merchant Marine Academy or the U. S. Coast Guard Academy are encouraged to begin the application process.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am very pleased to announce the opening of the application process to attend the U. S. Service Academies. It is an honor to participate in the selection of some of Alabama's brightest students to attend one of these time-honored institutions. I would encourage students who strive for excellence in academics, leadership and service to consider applying to attend one of the Service Academies."
