Senator Shelby made the following remarks about the project, “I am pleased that the Senate once again recognized the value of the SED building for our Armed Forces by authorizing funding to complete the facility. The SED building will provide support facilities for the Army’s expanding reliance on software automation and rapid data transfer across the full spectrum of materiel systems. As the number and complexity of unique software systems developed and supported at Redstone Arsenal continues to increase, so does the requirement for adequate facilities to support them.”
“I believe this project will allow our servicemembers to be more versatile by enabling every warfighter to troubleshoot and operate any comparable weapon system with a minimum of training. Software has become a crucial component of our modern fighting force, and the SED building will be the development, analysis, training, and proving ground for military software of the future,” Senator Shelby concluded.
While funding for the SED project is authorized in the DoD Authorization Bill, it must still receive appropriated funds through the appropriations process.
