Statement of Senator Richard Shelby
WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby today announced his endorsement of Tom Young in his bid to succeed Representative Sonny Callahan, to represent Alabama's First Congressional District, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
"I am proud to strongly endorse Tom Young in his bid to succeed Representative Sonny Callahan. Tom has worked for me, and for the people of South Alabama, for twelve years. There is no candidate more qualified than Tom, and no one will work harder for the people of Alabama's First District."
Tom Young has served as Senator Shelby's chief of staff for twelve years. Born and raised in Mobile, Young attended grade school, high school and the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law and has an MBA from Georgetown University. He and his wife Allen, of Mobile, have one young son, Alexander.
"I am pleased with Tom's decision to continue to serve the people of Alabama by seeking this important seat," added Shelby. "He will be a tremendous asset to the delegation."
