Shelby Nominates Jefferson County Students to United States Service Academies

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that he has nominated 58 students from across the state of Alabama, including eleven from Jefferson County, to attend United States service academies.  Service academies include the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
 
Joseph Sean Baxter of Leeds, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Susan and Darryl Baxter and is a student at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham.  Hollister Caroline Chapman of Mountain Brook, Alabama, also received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  She is the daughter of Mariah and Terance Chapman and currently attends the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School.  William Reid Freeman also of Mountain Brook, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.  He is the son of Carolyn and John Freeman and is a student at Mountain Brook High School.  Joseph Callahan Reebals of Birmingham, Alabama, also received a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.  He is the son of Tiffany and Eric Reebals and attends Briarwood High School.  Maximillian Renfro of Mountain Brook, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Ellen and Nathaniel Renfro and is currently a student at Marion Military Institute.  Alexander Andreas Sabri of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.  He is the son of Julie and Sammy Sabri and attends Vestavia Hills High School.  Jackson Elliott Stewart of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy.  He is the son of Lisa and Mark Stewart and is a student at Bessemer Academy.  Charles Patton Waters of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.  He is the son of Virginia and Jason Waters and attends Vestavia Hills High School.  Nathan Cole Williams of Warrior, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.  He is the son of Lisa and Jonathan Williams and is a student at Hayden High School.  Amelia Elizabeth Winston of Mountain Brook, Alabama, also received a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.  She is the daughter of Kelley and Norman Winston and attends Mountain Brook High School.  Emmett Winton Yerby IV of Birmingham, Alabama, received a nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy.  He is the son of Rene and Winton Yerby and is a student at the Altamont School in Birmingham. 
 
“I am honored to nominate these excellent students from Jefferson County to various U.S. service academies,” said Senator Shelby.  “Their academic records and achievements outside the classroom ensure that they are equipped to succeed in this new endeavor.  I wish them the best of luck in this next chapter and look forward to their future accomplishments.” 
 
In order to be considered for a service academy nomination, applicants must be residents of Alabama and complete the required ACT or SAT exams. They must also provide letters of recommendation, an official school transcript, a qualifying medical examination, and a completed application form found on Senator Shelby’s website.
 
Although Senator Shelby has nominated these students, the academy to which they received a nomination will make the final admission decision.
