U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced funds for an East - West corridor project to extend Interstate 85 to Interstate 59. The funds, totaling $2,913,000, will be released Monday by the Federal Highway Administration.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am proud to provide this crucial funding for the Interstate 85 corridor. This project will connect Montgomery and Prattville with Meridian, Mississippi. This initial funding is the first step in the creation of Interstate 85. This is an important priority for me. Interstate 85 will bring significant economic development and opportunities to a region of the state that has not yet reached its potential."
