Conferees approve Military Construction Conference Report

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced approval of the conference report to accompany H.R. 4837, the Military Construction Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2005. The bill is expected to come before the Senate today for approval. After approval by both the House and the Senate, this legislation will be sent to the President, which he is expected to sign into law. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for the Anniston Army Depot.

$23.69 million for Powertrain Component Rebuilding Facility

Sen. Shelby said, “I am pleased that the Conference Report includes $23.69 million for construction of the Powertrain Maintenance Facility at Anniston Army Depot. This facility will be a flexible maintenance facility for the repair and overhaul of reciprocating engines. Additionally, the facility will be utilized for integration of all types of engine and combat vehicle power train support operations.”

In total, $98 million for Alabama Military Construction projects was included in the Military Construction Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2005.
