SHELBY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR BIRMINGHAM AREA PROJECTS

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today subcommittee approval of funding requests for several Alabama projects in the VA/HUD and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am very pleased that my colleagues recognized the merits of my funding requests."

 The following project requests, were funded by the subcommittee:

Historic Antique Talladega Restoration - $250,000
"I am proud to announce these funds for the restoration and expansion of the Antique Talladega Theater in downtown Talladega. I am hopeful these improvements will assist in the development of a performing arts center for East Central Alabama and economic development for other downtown businesses," said Shelby.

Lawson State Community College for an Information Technology Training and Placement Service Center - $200,000
"This program will assist in the training and placement of Lawson State Community College graduates throughout the metropolitan areas of Birmingham and Huntsville," said Shelby.

Haleyville, Alabama Downtown Revitalization Project - $300,000
"This funding will enable Haleyville to begin phase one of their downtown revitalization project," said Shelby.

Alabama Water Projects
"This funding will go along way in aiding our cities and counties as they deal with their water resource challenges," said Shelby.

Guin Water Supply Project - $500,000

Construction of a new sanitary wastewater lagoon system in Berry, Alabama - $500,000

Sumiton Sanitary Sewer System, Sumiton, Alabama - $500,000

Talladega, Alabama for county water supply facilities upgrades and construction - $450,000
