WASHINGTON, D. C.--- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that the City of Bessemer will receive $1 million from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements to the Bessemer Municipal Airport.

Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased to make this announcement for the Bessemer Airport. These funds will be used to extend the runway to better accommodate larger aircraft to ensure safe take-off and landing. I was pleased to play a role in securing these funds so the Bessemer Airport may continue work on its improvement efforts.”

This funding, which was secured in the federal appropriations process, will be administered through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
