U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) was awarded with the Family Policy Council’s True Blue award for his pro-family voting record during the 107th Congress. Each Congress, the Family Policy Council selects several votes that members of Congress cast that reflect the group’s agenda of lowering taxes, reforming education, and protecting the life of unborn children.

Specifically, several of the votes that the Family Policy Council selected include promoting school choice, permanently repealing the death tax, and prohibiting human cloning, all of which Senator Shelby supported. In 2001, Senator Shelby was a cosponsor and vocal supporter of Senator Sam Brownback’s bill to prohibit human cloning.

Sen. Shelby said, “Every day in the United States Senate, I am advocating legislation that I believe in and that will benefit my constituents in Alabama. I am pleased that the Family Policy Council deems my work worthy of an award.
