Shelby Announces $249,973 for Mobile County Commission

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $249,973 to the Mobile County Commission for the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program.

“To increase public safety in our justice system it is critical that criminal offenders who suffer from mental illness have access to treatment services,” said Shelby.  “The Mobile County Commission will use this funding to implement the Mobile County Jail Diversion Program and develop a collaborative effort between justice, mental health and other community providers to prevent the arrest and re-arrest of mentally ill citizens.”
