WASHINGTON, D. C. --- U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today subcommittee approval of funding requests for several Alabama projects in the VA/HUD and Independent Agencies Appropriations bill.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am very pleased that my colleagues recognized the merits of my funding requests."
The following project requests, were funded by the subcommittee:
Mobile Historic Development Commission - $500,000
"These funds will be used for the Oakleigh District Revitalization Project and the renovation of this historic district," said Shelby.
Center for Estuarine Research and the University of South Alabama - $1 million
"I am pleased to announce this funding for research activities the Center conducts on the ecology of coastal lands and seascapes. This funding will allow the University of South Alabama to continue the vital ecological research that it is conducting in the Gulf Coast and Mobile Bay areas. The knowledge gained from this research provides important scientific insights that can be used to preserve and protect coastal plant and wildlife," said Shelby.
