SEN. SHELBY ANNOUNCES $149,645 FOR THE POARCH BAND OF CREEK INDIANS

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) announced today that the Poarch Bank of Creek Indians will receive $149,645 in part of the Tribal Courts Assistance Program. This funding supports the development, implementation, enhancement, and continuing operation of tribal justice systems.

The Poarch Bank of Creek Indians, located in Atmore, has experienced significant growth in their sixteen years of operations. They have begun handling traffic offenses and a Drug Court Program. This funding will assist them to continue funding a Probation Officer, obtain a vehicle for the probation Officer/Tribal Court, and conduct an evaluation for the tribal Court System.

Sen. Shelby said, “I applaud the Department of Justice for awarding this grant to this worthy initiative.”
