SEN. SHELBY ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FOR TUSCALOOSA

Subcommittee Passes Transportation Appropriations Bill

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, announced subcommittee approval of important transportation funding for Tuscaloosa.

Sen. Shelby said,"I am pleased that the bill provides significant funding for several projects for Tuscaloosa. These funds reflect the subcommittee's commitment to safe and efficient transportation and infrastructure."

Black Warrior Parkway
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill provides $20 million to construct a corridor connecting Black Warrior Parkway Bridge with Interstate 59. The construction of this project will improve access and improve traffic flow throughout the metropolitan Tuscaloosa area."

Tuscaloosa Municipal Airport - Contract Tower
Sen. Shelby said, "This bill provides funding for air traffic control services at Tuscaloosa Municipal Airport." Sen. Shelby said, "The contract tower program has received the overwhelming support of the aviation community because it is a cost-effective way to enhance aviation safety. I am pleased that the bill directs the Federal Aviation Administration to continue operation of the contract tower at Tuscaloosa Municipal Airport."

City of Tuscaloosa - Riverwalk and Parkway Development
Sen. Shelby said, "This legislation provides $1 million for the construction of a riverwalk and parkway along the Black Warrior River. This funding will assist Tuscaloosa in the development of this underutilized area along the river."

Alabama Disability Accessibility Program
Sen. Shelby said, "Our bill provides $1 million for the Alabama Disability Accessibility Program in Tuscaloosa. This funding will aid this program in their work on behalf of Alabamians with disabilities."

Forkland Park - Eutaw, Alabama
Sen. Shelby said, "In recent years, the number of visitors to Forkland Park's camping, hunting and fishing areas has greatly increased and the park's access road has taken a beating. "This legislation provides $475,000 for improvements to the park's access road."
