SHELBY STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF ROSA PARKS

WASHINGTON, D. C. -- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), released the following statement on the death of Rosa Parks:

Senator Shelby said, “I was saddened to hear of the passing of the courageous civil-rights pioneer, Mrs. Rosa Parks. Mrs. Parks took a public stand for civil rights and played a pivotal role in helping our country move forward to ensure equal rights for all Americans. Alabama and the nation have made great strides since Rosa Parks first refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus in 1955. Mrs. Parks, the mother of the new civil rights movement, will never be forgotten, as the influential role she played changed America and the world.”
