SHELBY ANNOUNCES MILITARY FUNDING FOR HALEYVILLE

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) announces the Senate Appropriations Committee's passage of the Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2003. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for Haleyville.

Included in the bill is $1.1 million in design funding for an Armed Forces Reserve Center in Haleyville, Alabama. This joint readiness center will serve four National Guard units and one U.S. Army Reserve unit. The current facility is 45 years old and badly overcrowded. The funding would provide the necessary administrative, training and storage areas required to support these Special Forces, Signal and Chemical Company units.

"I am pleased to announce these funds for Fort Rucker," said Shelby. "These funds represent our continuing commitment to our nation's security and to the men and women who serve our country."

The Military Construction Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2003 includes $20.814 million for Alabama Military Construction projects.
