Shelby Announces $9.4 Million for University of Alabama

Senate Appropriations Committee Approves Labor-HHS Appropriations Bill

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, today announced committee approval of important funding for the University of  Alabama included in the Fiscal Year 2009 Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill.  Following today’s action by the committee, the bill will now go to the Senate floor for consideration.
University of Alabama Health Sciences Center – $9.4 million

This facility will be a part of the larger interdisciplinary science and engineering research center on the University of Alabama’s campus.  Research conducted at the facility will include environmental health science, biomedical imaging, bioengineering, bimolecular products, occupational health and rehabilitation engineering/assistive technology.

“Researchers at this facility will engage in cutting-edge research that will benefit people throughout the Southeast and across the nation,” said Shelby.  “It is critical that researchers and students have the most up-to-date technology available to conduct their important work.  I look forward to hearing of the important strides made at this facility in the future.”
