Synna Guy, daughter of Ms. Sandy Pate of Jemison, Alabama, completed an internship in the Washington office of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.).
While in Washington, Synna completed legislative research, conducted tours of the U.S. Capitol building, and attended hearings on various important issues.
“The Congressional Internship Program is an important complement to these students' academic studies. Their experiences help bring to life what they have studied in the classroom,” Shelby said. “The internship fosters a fuller and richer understanding of our government's legislative process, while providing a first-hand view of public service. I know that the students that hold these internships will go on to achieve great things.”
Synna is a recent graduate of American University. She was involved in a variety of activities while completing her undergraduate degree, including the Pre-Law Association, Uganda Help, College Republicans, 2008 Presidential Campaign and Wounded Warriors. Synna plans to enter a dual degree program to obtain her Juris Doctorate and master’s degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution.
Senator Shelby’s Congressional Internship Program is open to college students who exhibit an interest in government and public service.
