U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded $1,994,458 to the State of Alabama for infrastructure improvements at six local airports.
This funding will be distributed among the following six airports:
·Albertville Regional-Thomas J Brumlik Field to acquire land for aircraft approaches
·Greensboro Municipal to acquire land for development
·Centre-Piedmont-Cherokee County Regional to conduct a taxiway and to conduct a miscellaneous study
·Greensboro Municipal to install fencing around its perimeter and remove obstructions
·Bessemer for taxiway lighting rehabilitation
·St Elmo to install fencing around its perimeter and remove obstructions
“A strong transportation infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industry to the state of Alabama,” said Shelby. “Our local airports serve as an important development tool for our state’s rural communities. This grant will provide funding to allow these smaller airports to make much-needed improvements benefiting our local communities and businesses.”
This grant also includes funds to identify pavement maintenance and rehabilitation needs at general aviation airports state-wide. The grant will also include funds for planning and/ or development work at 5 general aviation airports in the State of Alabama.
