U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $89,435 to Tallapoosa County. This grant is awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which provides funding for law enforcement agencies to implement programs that prevent and control crime based on their own identified needs. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“It is essential that we provide our local law enforcement officers with tools that will help them with their jobs,” said Shelby. “The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department will use this funding to purchase in-car camera systems, which will provide a more advanced method of documenting criminal evidence and ensuing personnel safety.”
