SHELBY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA’S BIRTH DEFECTS MONITORING PROGRAM

Conference Committee Approves Funding–House and Senate Scheduled to Approve Funding Soon

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced funding of the University of South Alabama's Birth Defects Monitoring Program. This program will now be eligible for funding by the United States Agency for International Development.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am very pleased that the Senate has recognized the importance of this program and has shown continued support for the work of the Birth Defects Monitoring Program at the University of South Alabama. The program will continue its studies of environmental causes of birth defects. In addition to the important research conducted at this facility, the facility employs numerous Mobile-area residents."
