Shelby Announces $131,485 for Alabama’s Project Safe Neighborhoods

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $131,485 to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs located in Montgomery.  This grant is awarded through Project Safe Neighborhood, which aims to reduce gun crime and violence to create safer neighborhoods.  Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.

“Our children deserve to have safe neighborhoods where they can play without fearing violence,” said Shelby.  “This funding will be used to continue efforts to reduce gun violence by monitoring serious, violent and chronic youth offenders who commit multiple felony offenses.  Additionally, this grant will help to reduce access to illegal guns and expedite judicial response to offenders in gun related cases.”
