Senate Passes Military Construction Appropriations Conference Report

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL) announces final passage of the conference report to accompany H.R. 2559, the Military Construction Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2004. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for Redstone Arsenal. The bill will now be sent to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

Included in the bill is $20 million for construction of Phase III of the Von Braun Complex for the Missile Defense Agency. These funds will provide for initial design-build construction of a secure, consolidated administration and operations center to support 969 personnel assigned to MDA's GMD-JPO, the Missile Defense Data Center (MDDC), the Optical Discrimination Analysis Offices (ODA) and direct support contractor personnel.

Also included in the bill is $5.5 million for construction of a new Vibration Dynamic Test Facility. These funds will support the Aviation and Missile Command's test and evaluation mission.

“I am pleased the Senate passed this important legislation,” said Shelby. “This funding is essential to the continued improvement of Redstone Arsenal, and it represents our continuing commitment to our nation's security and to the men and women who serve our country.”

In total, $59.669 million for Alabama Military Construction projects was included in the Military Construction Appropriations Act.
