WASHINGTON, DC --- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), Chairman of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee (CJS), today announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will soon be releasing $976,479 for the City of Orange Beach to assist with their acquisition of Robinson Island.

Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased these funds are being made available for the City of Orange Beach to acquire Robinson Island in order to preserve and protect the island’s natural habitat and resources. Robinson Island is home to beaches, marshes, and wooded areas and these funds will help ensure it is protected.”

Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing these funds in the fiscal year 2005 appropriations process.
