U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee (CJS), today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration has awarded $1,967,000 to Colbert County for water system improvements to allow for the expansion of the Barton Riverfront Industrial Park and the addition of a freight rail car manufacturing facility.
“It is critical that Alabama’s local communities have a strong infrastructure in place to support area businesses and attract new industries that bring new jobs,” said Shelby. “The expansion of the Barton Riverfront Industrial Park and the arrival of a Canadian rail car manufacturer are expected to bring high-paying jobs that will significantly benefit Colbert County’s economy. This grant will ensure that Tuscumbia has the infrastructure necessary to support these important investments.”
The expansion of the riverfront and the addition of the freight car manufacturer is expected to create 525 jobs and generate $122.4 million in private investment.
