CONFERENCE COMMITTEE STRIPS BILLBOARD AMENDMENT FROM SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATIONS BILL

U. S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and a Conferee, today announced the Conference Committee on the fiscal year 2006 Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill stripped language regarding non-conforming signs, or billboards.

Senator Shelby said, “Throughout this process I have worked diligently to ensure that local laws and ordinances are not preempted. I was pleased that the Conference Committee dropped the Senate amendment addressing billboards. I believe this outcome is in the best interest of our municipalities.”

Senator Shelby sent a letter to Chairman Cochran on May 8th, 2006 outlining his concern regarding Senate Amendment 3805.
