FY 2005 Transportation Appropriations Bill Passes Subcommittee
Sen. Shelby said, “I am pleased to announce funding for many important transportation projects in Alabama. Our bill takes a number of steps to improve transportation throughout the Auburn area.”
$4 Million - Airfield Pavements Research Program
Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased to announce funding for the Airfield Pavements Research Program. This important program will develop safer, more cost-effective, and durable airfield pavements, which will ultimately increase the safety of airports nationwide. Auburn University will conduct the research for this important project.”
$3 Million - Easter Seals Project ACTION
Senator Shelby said, “Easter Seals Project ACTION promotes cooperation between the transportation industry and the disability community to increase mobility for people with disabilities. These funds will assist them in their efforts to further this program.”
$500,000 - Southern Fuel Cell Coalition
These funds will be used to establish the Southern Fuel Cell Coalition which will serve the Southeastern United States. The coalition will work to tackle the challenges and opportunities that face fuel cell development and hydrogen infrastructure in the South.
Auburn-Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport
The bill directs the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator to give priority consideration to the Auburn-Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport for phase I of the Eastside Terminal Development including a ramp, taxiway, and access road.
