U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that the application period for the fiscal year 2008 Interoperable Emergency Communications Grant Program (IECGP) is now open. The grant program is offered through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“It is essential that our communities are prepared to respond to any hazard,” said Shelby. “This important grant program works to ensure that our governments in local municipalities will be able to continue serving our communities in the event of a major disaster.”
IECGP provides planning, training and exercise funding to states, territories and local and tribal governments to carry out initiatives to improve interoperable emergency communications, including communications in collective response to natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other man-made disasters.
The DHS will accept applications through Monday, July 21, 2008, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. For more information or to obtain an application for the IECGP, please visit the Grants.gov portal, accessible on the Internet at http://www.grants.gov.
