Conferees approve Military Construction Conference Report

U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced approval of the conference report to accompany H.R. 4837, the Military Construction Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2005. The bill is expected to come before the Senate today for approval. After approval by both the House and the Senate, this legislation will be sent to the President, which he is expected to sign into law. Included in the bill at the request of Senator Shelby is significant military funding for Alabama and for Fort Rucker.

“I look forward to the prompt passage of this important legislation," said Shelby. "These funds represent our commitment to national security and to the men and women who serve our country.”

$16.5 million for construction of an Aircraft Maintenance Hangar
These funds will provide for a pull-through aircraft maintenance hangar with overhead bridge crane and a full compliment of support and safety systems, apron, aircraft parking ramp and mooring points. The facility will also have technical shop space; parts storage; flammable storage; maintenance administration space; training/briefing area; and restrooms, showers, locker facilities and break room. This state-of-the-art hangar will replace three existing facilities.

$24 million for construction improvements for Family Housing Privatization

Senator Shelby said, “I am pleased that these funds have been included to improve housing and quality of life for our military families on Fort Rucker.”

In total, $98 million for Alabama Military Construction projects was included in the Military Construction Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2005.
