U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala) today announced that the application period for the fiscal year 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program is now open. The grant program is offered through U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Grants and Training.
“The Assistance to Firefighters Grants program provides critical funding to fire departments across Alabama,” said Shelby. “These grants help firefighters purchase equipment and vehicles that allow them to continue efforts to ensure the safety of our citizens and our communities. I strongly encourage fire departments that seek federal assistance to complete an application to the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program before the deadline of April 4, 2008.”
The AFG Program funds projects to purchase new equipment, improve firefighter health and safety programs, and improve the effectiveness of firefighting and emergency response operations. The AFG Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. Non fire-based EMS organizations may also apply for grants.
