U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced funds for the Mobile Waterfront. The funds, totaling $4,956,536, will be released Monday by the Federal Highway Administration.
Senator Shelby secured this funding for Mobile in the Fiscal Year 2002 Transportation Appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed into law.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am proud to provide these funds for the facility that will house the Mobile Waterfront Terminal and Maritime Center of the Gulf. The project, which is critical to the revitalization of the downtown area, will provide an arrival location for a new high-speed ferry terminal and educational complex, as well as additional space for future commercial development."
