U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, announced today that the Tuscaloosa Municipal Airport will receive $275,885 from the Department of Transportation.

This grant will provide funds for the installation of fencing around the perimeter of the airport. The funding will also assist the airport in improving the runway safety area, which was determined in 2000 and 2001, to not be up to FAA standards. Finally, this project will repair and replace the existing airfield lighting control panel in the control tower and lighting on the runway.

Sen. Shelby said, “This is an important project for the Tuscaloosa airport, and I’m pleased the Department of Transportation supported this initiative. It is an important priority for me that Alabama’s airports are given the needed resources so they may remain safe and convenient for the passengers and pilots who use them.”

This funding comes in part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
