SHELBY ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR GORGAS MEMORIAL INSTITUTE TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL INITIATIVE AT UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT BIRMINGHAM

U. S. Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) announced today that the Senate Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee has approved his request for funding in the Foreign Operations Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2003. Included in the bill is the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Gorgas Memorial Institute Tuberculosis Control Initiative. This program will now be eligible for funding by the United States Agency for International Development.

Sen. Shelby said, "I am very pleased that the Subcommittee has recognized the importance of this program and has shown continued support for the work of the Tuberculosis Control Initiative at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. The program will continue its studies of tuberculosis."
