U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), today made the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of the health care reconciliation bill. Senator Shelby opposed the bill, which passed the Senate by a vote of 56-43.
“This is a decisive step towards socialized medicine in our country. We could have enacted reforms that build upon rather than turn upside-down the best health care system in the world. Instead, the Democrats chose to use partisan legislative maneuvers to build more federal bureaucracy that will result in rationed care, higher taxes, and larger deficits. This is not reform. It is simply more government expansion and intervention in our lives.”
