U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration has awarded $2,689,626 to the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“The routes along the US 11 Highway from Birmingham to Bessemer are some of the most heavily traveled in Alabama’s transit system,” said Shelby. “This funding will be used to study the southwest corridor from Birmingham to Bessemer. The findings from this study will provide information for alternative modes of transportation that will be needed to ensure success in the redevelopment of the area.”
