U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded $514,475 to the Volunteers of America in Huntsville to create a 50 bed shelter for homeless veterans this year.
“Veterans are our nation’s heroes and it is our responsibility to lend a helping hand in their time of need,” said Shelby. “This funding will help provide safe and temporary shelter for homeless veterans in the Huntsville area. It is critical that we continue efforts to reduce homelessness among our veterans.”
The Department of Veterans Affairs has the largest integrated network of homeless assistance programs in the country.
