U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will award over $1.2 million to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for medical research.
This funding will be distributed among the following four research projects at UAB:
Mechanisms of Ocular Development - $362,500
A Multi-Component Behavioral Nutrition Intervention for Homebound Elderly - $184,966
HDL Modulation of monocyte function in endotoxemia - $267,634
Apo E mimetics cholesterol and improve HDL function - $401,221
“UAB is one of the premier medical research facilitates in the nation,” said Shelby. “Each day, researchers at UAB are involved in cutting-edge medical research. I am confident that the findings from their research will reach far beyond Alabama and help extend and improve the lives of people across our nation.”
