U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded $1,214,694 to the Birmingham International Airport for land acquisition.
“As concern for rising gas prices grows, public transportation becomes a very attractive option for travel within a community,” said Shelby. “Investing in Birmingham Airport’s infrastructure will not only provide the safest and most efficient transportation services for Alabamians, but will ensure that the area remains desirable for residents and businesses. The Birmingham International Airport will use this funding to acquire land needed for the development of additional overflow parking, relocation of its fuel farm and construction of a maintenance facility.”
