U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that Department of Transportation has awarded $7.2 million to the Birmingham International Airport. This grant will be used to acquire land surrounding the airport for noise compatibility.
“Investing in Birmingham Airport’s infrastructure will not only provide the safest and most efficient transportation services for Alabamians, but will ensure that the area remains desirable for residents and businesses,” said Shelby. “The Birmingham Airport Authority will use this funding to acquire land located near the Birmingham International Airport. Expanding the perimeter of the airport will result in significantly less noise disruptions from inbound and outbound aircrafts for those residents and businesses located in the area.”
