Shelby Announces $350,000 for Birmingham Drug Court

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $350,000 to the City of Birmingham for the Birmingham Municipal Adult Drug Treatment Court.  Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.

“The majority of offenses committed in Birmingham are related to drug and substance abuse,” said Shelby.  “However, through rehabilitation, non-violent drug offenders have the opportunity to become contributing members of society. This funding will be used for the planning and implementation of the Birmingham Municipal Adult Drug Treatment Court, which targets non-violent substance abuse offenders and requires them to submit to regular drug testing, counseling and appearances before the court.”
