U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $82,965 to the Alabama Coalition Against Rape. This grant is provided through State Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Programs. Senator Shelby was instrumental in securing this funding.
“Violent crimes against women are abhorrent and we must do all we can to prevent them,” said Shelby. “This funding supports the efforts of federal, state and local organizations to respond to violence against women. Through their counseling, support and training programs, these organizations are critical to women who have been assaulted and victimized.”
