U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala), Chairman of the Transportation, Treasury, and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, announced today that Bessemer Airport will receive $1,291,458 from the Department of Transportation. Senator Shelby secured these funds in the Fiscal Year 2004 Consolidated Appropriations Act.

Sen. Shelby said, “I am pleased to announce that this important funding is being released for Bessemer Airport. These funds, which will assist with the acquisition of land for approach strips, and apron and taxiway improvements, will improve the safety and security of Bessemer Airport. It is an important priority for me that Alabama's airports are given the needed resources so they may remain safe and convenient for the passengers and pilots who use them.”

“I also believe that the expansion and improvement of Bessemer Airport will compliment the continued growth in Jefferson County and surrounding areas,” Shelby concluded.
