Corridor X and Birmingham Northern Beltline to Benefit
$30 Million for Corridor X
The legislation provides $30 million for Corridor X, a 97-mile highway from Fulton, Mississippi to Interstate 65 near Birmingham, Alabama. Corridor X is one of the largest unfinished segments of the Appalachian Development Highway System.
Sen. Shelby said, "I am pleased that we have been able to secure $30 million in funding for Corridor X. Finishing construction of Corridor X is extremely important in order to stimulate economic growth and create new jobs in the area. Completing Corridor X will improve the safety of drivers in northwest Alabama."
Northern Beltline Designation
The conference report includes language including the Birmingham Northern Beltline in the Appalachian Development Highway System’s Corridor X.
Sen. Shelby said, “The Northern Beltline is one of my highest priorities, and this designation will now make it eligible for funding under the Appalachian Development Highway System. In addition to federal aid highway funding, I believe that the funding that the Northern Beltline will now receive as part of the Appalachian Development Highway System will provide the resources necessary to move this project forward.”
