SHELBY ANNOUNCES OVER $1.4 MILLION FOR TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGY IN HUNTSVILLE

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, and General Government, announced today that the Department of Transportation will be releasing $1,447,173 for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) in Huntsville. ITS allows for metropolitan areas to examine their current transportation infrastructure and make determinations on how to make their traffic systems more efficient. As Chairman of the Subcommittee, Senator Shelby secured these funds in the fiscal year 2004 appropriations process.

Sen. Shelby said, “These funds will be used to upgrade traffic monitoring systems throughout the city, including traffic light improvements and installation of additional camera systems to monitor high traffic areas particularly during emergency situations.”
